📰 News Central

Breaking and big sports news for the NFL, college football, NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLB and soccer, posted to the channels you choose: each story sorted, corroborated, double-checked and linked to the source.

How do I set up ✦ News Central?

Run /news setup in Discord (Manage Server) or add a ✦ News Central rule under Alerts in the dashboard, pick a channel, then choose sports, news types, teams and a quiet mode. Both edit the same settings. News Central is part of Premium for servers.

Set it up

  1. Turn on Premium for the server ($5/month). News Central is included, no add-on. In a server without Premium, /news setup shows the Premium offer instead.
  2. Run /news setup (Manage Server). A private panel opens: pick the channel (or Add another channel…), then the quiet mode, sports and news types, and the buttons for Breaking only, Teams, Pause / Resume, Betting content and Dashboard. Every change saves as you pick it.
  3. Or use the dashboard: Alerts → add a ✦ News Central rule for a channel. The rule editor has the same choices, plus the overnight window and the digest times for those quiet modes. A change in one place shows in the other at once.
  4. A rule per channel. Want #nba-news and #soccer-news? Give each channel its own rule with its own filters.
Note
Older ✦ News rules (made before News Central, or by the server setup kit) get the RSS news on Big stories only until you save them once in the dashboard or with /news setup. A new rule starts on Off: every matching story.

The options

SportsNFL, college football, NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLB and soccer. None picked means every league.
News types9 types, all on for a new rule: Injuries, Lineups & availability, Trades, Signings & contracts, Releases & roster moves, Suspensions & discipline, Coaches & front office, Milestones & records, General news. Switch off what a channel shouldn't get; at least one stays on.
Teams (optional)Up to 50 teams; a picked team means only stories about that team or its players (the sports filter still applies). None means every team.
Breaking onlyOnly the big ones. A breaking story needs corroboration (2+ outlets, a known insider, or an official team or league source) and jumps the queue, up to 12 a channel a day; past that it waits its turn.
Morning injury boardOn by default: once a day at 10 AM in the server's time zone (pick another hour, or turn it off), one card with the notable injury statuses for today's games, from the injury reports: Out, Doubtful and Questionable, stars and starters first, with team logos. It always posts silently and never shows odds. Nothing notable, no post.

Quiet modes

One per rule. A quiet mode changes timing, volume and pings only, never which channel a story goes to. Without one, a channel gets at most one regular story every 10 minutes and breaking jumps the queue.

  • Off: Every matching story with normal pings, at most one regular story every 10 minutes.
  • Silent: The same stories, sent as silent messages (no notification).
  • Big stories only: Breaking and star-player stories only, at most one regular story every 30 minutes.
  • Big stories, silent: Big stories only, sent as silent messages.
  • Overnight quiet: Paused overnight; the top 3 missed stories post as one catch-up when the window ends.
  • Game time quiet: Paused while this rule’s leagues have games live; the top missed story posts afterwards.
  • Digest: No single posts: one roundup of up to 8 headlines at each digest time.

Big stories only means breaking and star-player stories, one regular story every 30 minutes at most. Catch-ups and digests only carry stories from the server's own calendar day.

The betting switch

Server-wide, in the dashboard's Settings → Betting content, or the Betting content button in /news setup. It covers every alert and command in the server, not only News Central.

On (the default)Cards can show the player's props (with a ⚠️ “check his status” line when he's questionable), the game's lines, book buttons, and for a star ruled out for a game today the Star out Angle (the opponent's moneyline and spread at the books, his team's record without him, his share of the scoring) and 👀 Teammates to watch (each teammate's main prop and his numbers without him). Follow-ups in the card's thread when our board sees the line move after the report, never estimated.
OffNo odds, lines, props, sportsbook buttons, book logos, Angles or line-move replies. The news, injury statuses, stats, timelines and the teammates' numbers without him stay.
Note
Never props for a player who is out. The Angle and the teammates' props are only for his team's game today (Eastern time) that hasn't started. Market data, not betting advice · examples · results vary · 21+ where legal · 1-800-GAMBLER.

What a card shows

  • The banner: the status in big type (RULED OUT, QUESTIONABLE, TRADED, SIGNED, FIRED…), the player and his team's logo, and the kicker: Confirmed, Reported or Rumor. Soccer and team stories show the club or team logo.
  • The text: the headline (a link to the source) and the outlet's own teaser, never the full article; the certainty line (with the insider's name when one is credited); the team's injury report when it has the player; this season's numbers from our stats; “also reported by” when more outlets carry it.
  • Living cards: when the story moves (a status change, a return window, another outlet), the same card is edited, with an UPDATED stamp, for up to 12 hours. The same story never posts twice in a channel.
  • Double-checked: stories are sorted by our rules and checked again before they post. Recaps, previews, opinion, betting picks, fantasy advice and listicles are dropped. Our own SportDataIQ stories post on the same rule.

/news player

Anyone in a Premium server can run /news player and start typing a name: the player's latest ✦ News Central stories from the last 30 days, only visible to them. Up to 5 lookups every 10 minutes.

Good to know

  • Pause / Resume in /news setup stops a channel's rule without losing its settings.
  • The Send test button on the dashboard rule posts a sample card to the channel.
  • The bot needs permission to post in the channel; the rule list says when it can't.
  • News Central is part of Premium for servers, not ✦ Personal Premium.
