Pick'em

A prediction thread for every game. Winner, spread and total against real market lines, a live tracker that shows who's covering as the score moves, in-game questions at the big moments, and a final that settles everything — automatically.

How a Pick'em game plays out

  1. About 90 minutes before the start the bot opens a thread under your channel — 🔮 Lions @ Bills · Pick'em — with the pre-game questions as polls. One vote per person per question.
  2. At kickoff (tip-off, puck drop, first pitch) the pre-game polls lock — and so do the spread and total. The polls open with the market's current number; the number you're graded on is the one at the start, and the tracker says if it moved.
  3. During the game the Line Tracker under the polls updates every 30 seconds: a spread gauge with the number as the marker and the live margin as the dot, a total bar that fills toward the line with the scoring pace, and the winner row. New questions post at natural moments: after the first score, at halftime, entering the 4th, the 7th inning…
  4. At the final every question is settled from the box score and the scoring plays, points are awarded, and the thread gets a results card — the final score, who covered and by how much, over or under — with its own standings. The thread archives itself.

TipPoints: 10 per correct pick, 5 when you took "Someone else" on a player question and were right, and +10 for a perfect pre-game card. Streaks are tracked. /rank shows this month's and all-time leaderboards for the server, and the bot crowns a champion on the 1st of every month.

Questions by league

Player questions list the top three candidates on each team (from the season leaders — touchdowns, goals, home runs, points per game) plus "Someone else". The spread, total and moneylines are the market consensus across regulated US sportsbooks (via PropLine) — the same board /odds shows — with the game's listed line as the fallback.

In-game: After the first score: next score is a TD, a field goal, or nothing more this quarter · Halftime: who wins the second half

NHL

Pre-game: Winner · Who covers the puck line (±1.5) · Over/under · First goal scorer · Decided in regulation or goes to OT/shootout

In-game: After the first goal: next goal — away, home, or none this period · Second intermission: who wins the third period

MLB

Pre-game: Winner · Who covers the run line (±1.5) · Over/under (runs) · First home run (or no homers at all) · Most hits

In-game: After the first homer: another one before the 7th? · 7th inning: who scores more the rest of the way

NBA & WNBA

Pre-game: Winner · Who covers the spread · Over/under · Winning margin (1–5 / 6–10 / 11–20 / 21+) · Top scorer · Which team makes more threes

In-game: Halftime: who wins the second half · Entering the 4th: does the leader hold on (or who wins, if tied)

Turning it on

Automatic — a Pick'em alert rule

In the dashboard create a rule with the Pick'em market for a league and pick the channel. Every game in that league gets a thread; add a team filter ("only Bills games") to keep it to the games your server cares about. Rules can ping a role when the thread opens.

On demand — /pickem

Anyone with Manage Server, the alert-manager role, or the Pick'em host role (Server settings → Pick'em) can run /pickem league:NFL game:Lions @ Bills in a channel to open a thread for any upcoming game — no rule needed. Games autocomplete; only games that haven't started are offered.

Permissions the bot needs

Create Public Threads and Send Messages in Threads in the channel, plus the usual Send Messages. Polls are native Discord polls, so members need nothing extra.

Good to know

  • A question with no clean answer — a tie on "who wins", a spread or total that lands exactly on the number (a push), two players level on yards — is void: nobody gains or loses points for it.
  • The spread and total lock at the start of the game, not when the thread opens, so a line that moves in the hours before kickoff is graded at its closing number. The lock message in the thread and the tracker both show the locked lines (and the opener, if it moved).
  • Postponed or suspended games are voided 12 hours after the scheduled start.
  • One thread per game per server. If a rule and a host both try, the first one wins and /pickem links to the existing thread.
  • Settlement uses the same feed as the alerts: scoring plays as they happen and the final box score.
